Nerve Mobilization

Our nervous system is a continuous organ that runs the entire course of our body. Our nervous system also transmits information regarding pain and injury. When injured by compression forces such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), tension such as in muscle injury, friction/chafing due to contact with body inside the body or solid objects outside the body the nerve can become damaged.

When this nerve tissue is injured, the neural tissue becomes anoxic and can create symptoms such as tingling and numbness. For this reason, decompression of the nerve is required and can be completed using specific nerve mobilization techniques.

Research by Brown and colleagues has shown that "Passive Neural Mobilization induces dispersion of intraneural fluid. This may be clinically significant in the presence of intraneural edema found in pathological nerves such as those found in compression syndromes."
